Boundary-pushing Argentine artist Nathy Peluso has released her long-awaited salsa EP, MALPORTADA, a six-track project that showcases her raw, passionate, and rebellious artistry. Arriving just one week after teasing the project with its title track featuring Rawayana, the EP comes with a full set of visualizers available today.
“Salsa is raw and passionate it’s the music of the untamed and the indestructible,” Nathy shares. “I’ve always been a rebel, a misfit. They’ve tried to correct me so many times, but my wild spirit has always led me down the best roads.”
A Dream Years in the Making
Before she became one of Latin music’s most genre-defying stars, Peluso dreamed of creating a salsa album. That vision finally came to life with MALPORTADA, a project written and recorded entirely in Puerto Rico, and co-produced alongside Manuel Lara (Kali Uchis, Bad Bunny), Servando Primera, and Benjamín Alerhand.
Composed during a creative retreat in Naguabo, the EP blends the energy of the island with Nathy’s own fearless artistic identity. She describes the project as a fusion of her three core tendencies: “the commercial, the experimental, and the minimalist.”
A Love Letter to Salsa With a Twist
From the lush drama of the title track “MALPORTADA” (a duet with Beto Montenegro of Rawayana) to the intense emotion of “Que Lluevan Flores,” the project celebrates salsa’s golden eras from the grand orchestral sounds of the 1970s to the romantic flourishes of the 1980s.
Tracks like “Ángel” pay tribute to legends such as Frankie Ruiz and Gilberto Santa Rosa, while other cuts reference icons like Héctor Lavoe and Willie Colón. Peluso honors the genre’s history but reclaims it with a modern feminist edge, offering a bold female perspective to a style long dominated by male voices.
“I’ve always identified with salsa stories told from a man’s point of view about love, danger, infidelity, and the forbidden,” she explains. “There’s a side of that world in every woman.”
A Career of Breaking Boundaries
MALPORTADA arrives as Nathy continues to rack up accolades. She recently earned two 2025 Latin GRAMMY® nominations: Best Urban Fusion for “DE MARAVISHA” with Tokischa, and Best Urban Song for “XQ ERES ASÍ” with Álvaro Díaz, bringing her total to 16 nominations and 5 wins.
Last year, Nathy made history by sweeping three awards, including Best Alternative Song for “El Día Que Perdí Mi Juventud,” Best Rap/Hip-Hop Song for “Aprender A Amar,” and Best Long Form Video for her GRASA film. She now ties the legendary Mercedes Sosa as the most-awarded Argentine female artist in Latin GRAMMY history and remains the first woman ever to win “Best Rap/Hip-Hop Song.”
The Rebel Returns
In MALPORTADA, Peluso channels that same fearless spirit that has defined her career, blending hip-hop attitude with salsa passion. “This EP represents how I defend my place in this industry as an artist and a woman,” she says. “Breaking rules, trusting my instincts, and embracing rebellion as my flag.”
With MALPORTADA, Nathy Peluso not only fulfills a lifelong dream but also redefines salsa for a new generation, bold, sensual, and unapologetically her own.
