MILO J, one of the most influential voices of Argentina’s new generation, has released “BAJO DE LA PIEL”, the first glimpse into his highly anticipated new album LA VIDA ERA MÁS CORTA. Produced by MILO J alongside Tatool and Santiago Alvarado, the track inaugurates the conceptual and emotional world of this new artistic era.
A Song About Memory, Identity, and Transformation
With profound and symbolic lyrics, “BAJO DE LA PIEL” explores themes of identity, the invisible marks left by time, and the weight of inherited memories. MILO J sings:
“I have tattoos under my skin
That never healed while another being is reborn
I don’t feel like myself and when I saw the sunset I wanted to slow down…”
The track incorporates chants from indigenous communities, reinforcing MILO J’s connection to his roots while fusing them with modern production. This blend creates a contemporary sound that doesn’t lose its essence, standing as both personal and universal.
A Music Video with Deep Cultural Roots
The official video, directed by Alex Aguerri, was filmed in Santiago del Estero, Argentina’s oldest province, often called the “mother of cities.” Chosen for its historical symbolism and legacy of resistance, the video was shot in a local cemetery and features a cast of local residents who protect and honor this ancestral space.
The visuals center on scars as a metaphor for long, enduring lives filled with memory, pain, and transformation. MILO J shared:
“Everyone who participated came to thank us and told us that thanks to this initiative, the world would now know that those people existed and continue to exist in our memories, in our songs, and in our gatherings.”
For the artist, the project is deeply personal. His family roots trace back to Santiago del Estero:
“My mom’s grandmother, who raised her, was from Santiago. She moved to Buenos Aires at 12 years old to build a new life, because over there everything is very hard, there’s everything but opportunities. That’s why, through this project, I continue writing this story.”
A Cinematic and Contemporary Take on Argentine Identity
Alongside “BAJO DE LA PIEL,” other album visualizers were filmed in Suncho Corral and Villa Atamisqui, weaving Argentine folklore into cinematic storytelling. Rather than relying on clichés, MILO J showcases the country’s interior through a modern, authentic lens—casting real people and highlighting national identity in a raw, emotional way.
LA VIDA ERA MÁS CORTA: A Cultural and Musical Journey
The upcoming album LA VIDA ERA MÁS CORTA promises to be a bold fusion of Argentina’s musical traditions and contemporary aesthetics. By blending folklore, tango, bandoneons, and Indigenous chants with modern production, MILO J reimagines Argentina’s cultural roots for today’s generation.
Far from traditional, the album positions itself as an honest, emotional, and innovative journey that honors the past while shaping the future of Argentine music.
“BAJO DE LA PIEL” is now available on all streaming platforms.
