Rock legend Carlos Santana and Mexican music powerhouse Carín León join forces in “VELAS”, a captivating new single that blends sensuality, spirituality, and musical mastery. The song, available today on all digital platforms, marks a groundbreaking collaboration between two of Latin music’s most powerful creative forces.

Produced and written by Edgar Barrera, the 26-time Latin GRAMMY® winner behind some of the biggest hits in Latin music, “VELAS” fuses Santana’s signature guitar sound with a rich tapestry of soul, R&B, rock, and pop, guided by flamenco-style handclaps and a hypnotic urban rhythm. The result is a sound both timeless and contemporary, an ode to devotion, sensuality, and surrender through love.

“For me, candles have a frequency that connects you with the spirit,” said Carlos Santana. “This song is about something that both God and humans love — it’s called romance. Romance is a bridge between humans and God. There’s so much negativity in the world right now that we need a hug of light.”

For Carín León, “VELAS” holds deep cultural meaning.

“This connection that we Latinos have with our spirituality, beyond religion, as part of our popular culture and portraying it in a modern way was very special,” León shared. “To collaborate with Carlos Santana is not just a milestone in my career; it’s an honor for every musician in Latin America.”

At its core, “VELAS” explores a love so deep it transcends the physical. The lyrics reference a spiritual devotion in which the narrator seeks divine protection for their beloved, invoking figures such as the Virgin MaryMuhammadBuddha, and even La Santa Muerte, reflecting a universal faith that crosses borders and beliefs.

Following the success of “ME RETIRO”, Santana’s collaboration with Grupo Frontera, “VELAS” continues to build anticipation for the rock icon’s new musical project, signaling a fresh creative chapter that unites generations and genres through love, light, and sound.
