Mexican icon Natalia Lafourcade has unveiled her new single “La Cometierra”, marking an unexpected yet powerful incursion into spoken word with hip hop influences. Co-produced by Cheche Alara and Michael Brauer, the track opens a bold new chapter in Lafourcade’s career, blending music and social commentary in a way that only she can.
A Social Manifesto Through Music
“La Cometierra” tells the story of a young girl gifted with the ability to find the disappeared, serving as a moving social manifesto deeply rooted in land, ancestry, and resilience. The song confronts the violence that plagues Mexican communities, while also amplifying messages of healing and resistance.

The single is also the title track for the upcoming Amazon Prime Video original series La Cometierra, inspired by Dolores Reyes’ acclaimed novel. The series follows a group of Mexican children living in a society scarred by gender-based violence and disappearances, led by a protagonist whose supernatural gift becomes a beacon of hope.
Natalia explains:
“In ‘La Cometierra,’ I wanted to create a bridge to the realities we live and witness today… It speaks of values and inner strength for caring for our communities and strengthening our tribe. It’s an important message in these times: to be loyal to ourselves, to respect one another, and to respect life.”
