A Song Born from Memory and Emotion
“Prenderte Una Vela” (“Light a Candle for You”) was written during a Spotify Música Mexicana songwriting camp in Los Angeles in October 2023, the same creative space that produced her Latin GRAMMY®-nominated hit “¿Seguimos o No?”
Co-written with Alan Vega and Agüita Tinta, the track is a tender cumbia that speaks to the pain and beauty of remembering someone who has passed, a soul who may no longer be physically present but continues to live on through love, memory, and light.
“It’s a song for anyone who has lost someone and continues to remember and honor that person through the years,” shares Infante. “That person will always stay with you, in your mind and in your heart. That’s what ‘Prenderte Una Vela’ is about.”
A Personal and Symbolic Tribute
The single’s cover art carries deep emotional significance for Lupita. As the granddaughter of legendary Mexican icon Pedro Infante and the daughter of Pedro Infante Jr., she channels her family’s legacy through every detail.
The image features a small engraved box, representing a sacred space where cherished memories are preserved, surrounded by candles that symbolize eternal light and spiritual guidance.
Rooted in Mexican tradition, the song echoes the rituals of October and November, when families light candles to guide loved ones’ spirits home.
“The candles are the light that guides them back to us,” Infante adds.
A Defining Year for Lupita Infante
2025 continues to be a milestone year for Lupita. She recently earned a Latin GRAMMY® nomination for “Best Regional Song”, standing as the only female artist in the category, a testament to her artistry and impact in Regional Mexican music.
This marks her second Latin GRAMMY® nomination, following her first in 2020 for “Dejaré.” Each recognition underscores her role as one of the genre’s most authentic, soulful, and forward-thinking voices.
Her Latin GRAMMY®-nominated single “¿Seguimos o No?” appears on her acclaimed third studio album, La Corona es Mía, released earlier this year, a 10-track project that merges classic Mexican sounds with a modern pop touch, celebrating tradition, empowerment, and emotion.
Carrying a Legacy Forward
Through “Prenderte Una Vela”, Lupita Infante not only honors her family’s legacy but also the millions who use music, light, and love to remember those who came before. It’s a reminder that even in loss, there is beauty and through song, memory becomes eternal.
