Founded in 1979 in Bogotá by maestro Jairo Varela, Grupo Niche is far more than an orchestra; it is a universal symbol of Latin identity, flavor, and musical excellence. Often regarded as the most important salsa group in Colombia’s history, the band remains a cultural institution.
Today, under the musical direction of José Aguirre and the general direction of Yanila Varela, Grupo Niche continues to honor the essence inherited from its founder while blending in freshness, innovation, and their unmistakable sound that resonates with audiences worldwide.

Throughout their career, Grupo Niche has delivered albums and songs that transformed Latin music forever. Their iconic album Cielo de Tambores (1990), named by Billboard as one of the 50 essential Latin albums of the last 50 years, along with timeless hits like “Cali Pachanguero”, “Una Aventura”, and “Gotas de Lluvia”, remains a universal salsa anthem.
In recent years, the group has reaffirmed its elite status with world-class accolades, including a GRAMMY® and Latin GRAMMY® for 40 (2020–2021) and another Latin GRAMMY® in 2023 for Niche Sinfónico, recorded with the Colombian National Symphony Orchestra.
