Kali Uchis Shines on Billboard’s Latin Power Players Cover, Redefining Bilingual Power in Music
Colombian-American superstar Kali Uchis continues to break cultural and musical barriers as she graces the second cover of Billboard’s 2025 Latin Power Players edition, a recognition celebrating the most influential leaders and innovators shaping the Latin music industry.

In her exclusive Billboard cover interview in New York, Uchis opened up about finding her voice, balancing motherhood on the road, and staying true to herself in an industry that once pushed her to choose between making Latin music or R&B.
“I’m not going to make music in just one language because it’s easier to sell,” Uchis said. “I’m going to do both because I can. I’ve always felt that not using everything God gave me in my art would be like spitting in His face. Why would He make me bilingual if it wasn’t meant to be reflected in my music and to inspire others?”
Kali also reflected on the challenges she faced early in her career, when her unique vision wasn’t yet understood. “I had a lot of doors shut in my face… Back then, that aesthetic wasn’t popular. Now, people are finally ready for what I represent.”
An Artist and Mother Leading with Heart
Beyond her artistic success, Uchis opened up about her experience as a mother and her determination to stay close to her child while continuing her rise to global fame. “Until my son turns three, it’s a huge priority for me to be present in his daily life, even when I’m working,” she shared.
Supported by her partner, rapper Don Toliver, Uchis manages motherhood and music with grace and authenticity. “Thankfully, my partner is very supportive,” she added.
