Austin-based art-pop collective Alma Muñeca invites listeners into an emotional, dream-filled soundscape with the announcement of their upcoming EP, Deseo un Brillo, arriving October 24. Alongside the news, the band has released their latest single, “Anhelo,” now available on all streaming platforms. To celebrate, the group will host an official EP release party on October 25 at Elysium in Austin, joined by Almost Heaven and I Wear Your Chain.

Sung entirely in SpanishDeseo un Brillo is a healing, introspective journey through self-confidence, peace, and love. Written during a period of heartbreak, the five-track project produced by band member Ernesto Grey (Font, Farmer’s Wife, Loveme, The Opera) explores themes of desire, vulnerability, and emotional renewal.

Lead vocalist Cocó Allegra describes the EP as an intimate reflection on love’s contradictions:

“How can I feel so passionate and loving about someone yet also feel so much confusion, anger and sadness about them too? I wrote this trying to find answers, to heal, and to manifest self-confidence.”

Grey, who grew up in Mexico before settling in Austin, channels a lifetime of influences into the project.

“It feels like I’ve been working toward producing music like this my whole life,” he says. “Growing up, I listened to 2000s Latin pop with rock instrumentation. Later, in Austin, I was inspired by electronic innovators like Trent Reznor, Thom Yorke, and Jon Hopkins. With Alma Muñeca, I’m exploring an ethereal and introspective sound that still feels pop but challenges boundaries.”

Allegra also draws inspiration from both nostalgic and avant-garde sources:

“I felt inspired by old salsa music like ‘Llorarás’ by Oscar D’León there’s something comforting about music I’ve listened to my whole life. But I was also moved by songs like ‘oh my love’ by FKA Twigs and ‘I Want You to Love Me’ by Fiona Apple.”

The newest single, “Anhelo,” captures the raw tension of heartbreak and longing.

“It’s like a personal phone call to your ex,” Allegra explains. “That moment when you’re going through a breakup but still crave closeness, no matter the consequences.”

With Deseo un BrilloAlma Muñeca crafts a lush, emotional portrait that blends Latin rootsmodern electronic textures, and art-pop experimentation, positioning the band as one of Austin’s most compelling rising acts in the Latin-alternative scene.
