With a career spanning over two decades and more than 27 Billboard chart-topping hits, Elvis Crespo continues to go strong, leaving his indelible mark on the history of Latin music worldwide. Today, Crespo returns with the release of his new album, “Poeta Herío” (Wounded Poet). Released under the independent label Puntería Records and distributed by Sony Music Entertainment U.S. Latin, “Poeta Herío” represents a musical journey of heartbreak, rhythm, and redemption that marks a new era for Elvis Crespo, uniting generations through Tropical sounds, a genre that Crespo globalized over two decades ago.
Kicking off with the profoundly deep track “Que Fuerte,” the 13-track album features iconic collaborations, a fusion of avant-garde sounds, and the union of generations of artists, that help together tell a story of heartache and healing. As spokespersons for this new era, Crespo enlists the help of musical legends and next-generation artists to tell his story, including Arcángel, Ebenezer Guerra, El Blachy, Ivy Queen, Jerry Rivera, La Insuperable, LuckRa, Oscarito, Sergio Luis Rodríguez, Toño Rosario, Tony Tun Tun, and Victor Manuelle.
The album’s lead single “Cora Roto” which enlists renowned Latin singer and rapper Arcangel, tells the story where betrayal is no longer a secret and all that’s left is to face the consequences. Written by Elvis Crespo and Austin Santos, among other notable songwriters, the official video was directed by Jesus Rondón and filmed in Campo Rico in Carolina, PR. Crespo opens his heart and expresses that he never imagined that his love story would end, revealing that there was more to the story than met the eye.
Earlier this year, Elvis Crespo released a revamped version of his classic “Nuestra Canción” with Jerry Rivera, marking his return to the Billboard Top 10 after more than five years. Additionally, Crespo released three tracks from a musical video trilogy celebrating the Dominican Republic’s signature merengue and the brotherhood among communities, including “Luna Llena” with rising Dominican artist Ebenezer Guerra, “Me Mataron” with Dominican sensation El Blachy, and finally, “Borrón y Cuenta Nueva” with legend Toño Rosario, La Insuperable, and Ebenezer Guerra. It’s worth noting that both “Luna Llena” and “Me Mataron” set new trends in the Dominican Republic, both reaching No. 1 on the country’s radio charts.
Regarding the new album, Elvis Crespo expressed, “This album came from my soul. It’s a project that emerged from a time in my life when I felt deeply hurt due to a separation. I transformed that pain into what I know how to do – music – and it became my form of therapy. Working with talented songwriters, producers, major figures in Latin music, and a new generation of artists who shared my vision was a dream. It’s a very special album, made with a lot of passion, and I am eternally grateful. I am blessed for this moment.”
